Aztec + Chambray

Forever 21 Shirt; Project Social T Tank; Topshop Skirt; Report Shoes; Michael Kors Watch

Let's talk about this skirt. I spotted it while wandering through the Topshop section at Nordstroms in South Coast Plaza over the summer, and I could have sworn it was just calling my name and asking me to take it home ;) since then, it's quickly become one of my new favorites and I can't wait to transition it into Fall with black tights and booties. And of course, because I'm kind of obsessed with chambray and this shirt in particular, I couldn't resist putting the two togther for dinner with boyfriend and a couple of friends from out of town. I normally throw this shirt on over a tank or wear it buttoned up with a pencil skirt for work, but I thought this would be a fun way to dress the skirt down a bit without taking away from it.

Soft Waves Tutorial - NYM at NYFW

As you know from this post, I've partnered up with Not Your Mother's to bring you a couple of quick and easy tutorials from New York Fashion Week, courtesy of NYM's lead hairstylist, Michele Carrillo. Today's look is the soft, tousled waves as seen at the Style 360 Kristin Cavallari by Chinese Laundry preview. Loose, soft waves are one of my go-to looks, but sometimes it can be hard to master the effortless style. Lucky for you, NYM has made it super simple!

Products Used: Whip It Up Cream Styling Mousse, Beat the Heat Thermal Shield Spray, and She's A Tease Volumizing Hairspray
Tools Used: Kinky Moves Spin Curl 360 Styler

1. Use Whip It Up Cream Styling Mousse to create volume while blowdrying
2. Prep hair with Beat the Heat spray to protect when curling
3. Section hair and curl using Kinky Moves
4. Set curls with volumizing hairspray

And with that you get gorgeous soft waves..

The Crop Top

Topshop Top; Angl Skirt; Report Shoes; Michael Kors Watch

Over the summer, I fully embraced the crop top trend. When paired with a high waisted skirt, it shows off just enough to keep the look chic yet flattering. And although I'm still over here patiently waiting for Fall, I decided to take advantage of the warm weather this weekend and sport the crop top for a family BBQ while my boyfriend's mom is in town and, later, to see Gone Girl (which we found to be incredibly disappointing).

The Tousled Bun Tutorial - NYM at NYFW

Happy Friday, lovelies! I'm excited to announce that I'm teaming up with Not Your Mother's again (remember that time I raved over them in this post?), to bring you quick and easy tutorials from some of my favorite NYM New York Fashion Week looks. Today we're showing you how to do the tousled low bun with no part, a look by NYM's lead hairstylist, Michele Carrillo for the ELLE Runway Collection by Kohl's show. I've always love the tousled bun look and was so happy to learn that this only takes 3 products and 6 simple steps!

Products used: Whip It Up Cream Styling Mousse, Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray (one of my favorite hair products ever!), and She's A Tease Volumizing Hairspray

1. Apply mousse for texture and volume and blow dry, directing hair back and smoothing hairline
2. Tease hair, leaving out entire hairline
3. Smooth tease, leaving some volume, into a low ponytail at the nape and secure with bungee
4. Tease ponytail for texture
5. Smooth pony and twist into bun - pin to secure
6. Smooth left out hair back and crisscross around bun

Thank you NYM for sharing your tousled bun secrets with us! Check back soon for yet another one of my favorite NYM looks from New York Fashion Week.

How To: Jumpsuit and Booties

If you didn't pick up on this from my first post back (here), I'm a pretty big fan of one-pieces. I own several rompers and have loved wearing them for dates with my boyfriend, museum visits, and shopping trips over the summer. This got me thinking about how to transition the one-piece into Fall and I quickly realized the idea isn't all that revolutionary - enter, the jumpsuit. Although I admittedly don't own any jumpsuits and used to find myself slightly intimidated by the look, I have come to love the idea of pairing it with sleek booties, a long cardigan, and a dramatic lip this month, while the weather is cooling down yet still mild enough to make this work.

Diane Von Furstenberg Jumpsuit; Jane Norman Cardigan; Nine West Booties; Michael Kors Bag; Tory Burch Bracelet; NYX Butter Lipstick

What do you think? Are you a fan of jumpsuits and rompers?
